Cedric X. Bryant, Ph. D., FACSM, is the chief exercise physiologist and vice president of educational services for the American Council on Exercise. Previously, Dr. Bryant was a senior vice president for StairMaster Health & Fitness Products, Inc. and served on the exercise science faculties of the Unites States Military Academy at West Point, Penn State University, and Arizona State University. He lectures nationally and internationally on many topics related to exercise, fitness, and health. Dr. Bryant is an accomplished writer, having authored 14 books and over 180 articles in a variety of sports medicine and fitness journals, including ACE Certified News, Fitness Management, IDEA Personal Trainer, Muscular Development, the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Medicine and Science and Exercise, etc. An active member and fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Dr. Bryant currently serves as an associate editor for ACSM's Health & Fitness Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 5th edition, and is an ACSM certified exercise specialist. He is also the chairman of the scientific advisory board for the American Council on Exercise and serves on the editorial board for ACE's Fitness Matters.
Barry A. Franklin, Ph.D., FACSM has been the director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Exercise Laboratories at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan since 1985. He holds adjunct faculty appointments as clinical professor of exercise science at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan: professor of physiology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit: and professor of family medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is a past president of the Board of Trustees of the American Heart Association, Michigan Affiliate, and has been a member of the board since 1989. He served a President of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in 1988 and President of the American college of Sports Medicine in 1999-2000. Currently, he serves as editor-in-chief of The American Journal of Sports Medicine & Sports, a journal geared to primary care physicians. He is a past editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and serves as a member of the American Journal of Cardiology's editorial board. He holds editorial positions with several other scientific journals, including the American Journal of Health Promotion, Sports Medicine, the Physician and Sportsmedicine, the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, the Exercise Standards and Malpractice Reporter, and Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. Dr. Franklin ha authored or coauthored over 300 scholastic papers, abstracts, chapters, and books, and has presented his research studies at national and international scientific meetings.
