I'm obviously no expert, but I started by doing assisted pull-ups and dips, and gradually I was able to do them un-assisted. Dips came along much faster than pull ups though, as I'm able to do 3 sets of 15 dips versus the 3 sets of 5 pull ups.

As for your question in my experience with lifting i found that lifting heavy weight with full body workouts twice a week is better than lifting singles 3 to 4 times for a very good reason. Number the body needs a lot of time to rest after lifting so try to lift monday and thursday. split workouts ...

Back on topic with the original post (Not that the avatar discussion wasn't riveting  ) Say I'm trying to get up to 175 lbs, how much should I be eating on active vs non-active days? I've started keeping a nutrition log and I'm discovering that for some time now I've been under 2000 calories p...

Full Body vs Split Workout

So after a quick search in the forum I didn't see the answer to this question.

Is it better (more effective) to do a full body workout twice a week or to split up the body parts and go three or four times a week?

Is there any real evidence either way or is it all anecdotal?

Can someone tell me what "Order" means in the weight lifting journal? Is that where in your workout the exercise was? The default is 0 so that's where the confusion comes from.

So I've been reading through some of the basic routines as you all suggested. Now, I primarily work out at the fitness center at my workplace. We have dumbbells but no bars. Is there any issue substituting squats or split squats with dumbbells in place of the regular squats? Same question goes for t...

I don't want to derail from the original poster, but I've run into a similar situation. I started working out almost 2 years ago, at first with the goal to lose my gut, which I did. And my arms went from around 12" to around 13" I'm not sure of the other measurements off the top of my head but my ch...
