Re: Personal Best Log
Been forever since I've posted. At USPA lifting meet in Albuquerque, Sept 12(?) 2015 (somewhere in there) First power-lifting competition, so first time I've had "Competitive" judged personal bests. All lifts were performed according to the USPA requirements for "Raw". Belt was allowed, but I don't ...

The proper care and feeding of calluses
Important (to me at least) question: how do I care for the calluses on my hands to keep them from tearing off when I Deadlift? background: I finally decided to try a powerlifting meet. As part of the training for this meet I've been working on getting a realistic feel for my non-strap-using Deadlift...

Re: Disturbance while squatting in power rack

I also hate anybody walking behind me across the olympic platform when I'm doing cleans, snatches, or jerks. Guys, this weight is moving fast, if you get in the way it's going to move *through* you.

Re: That question about lower back initiating deadlift
Just wanted to chime in and say that I've been reading this thread with great interest and hope the discussion continues. I love deadlifting, I do it every week, been doing it for years, and every week its the lift that I have to pay the most attention to my form. Kenny, from where I sit, it's hard ...

Re: Tweaked Lower Back
Ken, I had some lower back issues a couple years back and Stuward had some advice that completely fixed it. It's basically exactly what you've arrived at yourself: poor glute activation. I didn't have a precipitating event, my lower back just started hurting one day and then it got worse over the co...

Re: Benching with and without spotter
My 2cents: Always use a spotter. I wouldn't even get close to my max without one. I don't go above 365 without a spotter and I'd take a handoff at 135 over doing it myself. I can always do more with a good handoff than unracking it myself. Even with a bad spotter. But...I've also dropped 305 on my c...

Re: Reality Check
Thanks for the feedback Hoose, I've pretty much come to the same conclusion: as training age increases you cant always just plug into a general workout scheme. You might have plenty of foundation, but not near enough excess capacity to realize or easily access. That being said...the workout turns in...

Reality Check
I've been doing Christian Thibaudeau's 915 workout ( http://www.t-nation.com/workouts/915-workout-program ) the past few weeks. I'm on week 4 now and have finally plugged the numbers into my spreadsheet for the remainder of the cycle. My numbers are based on the following: Starting maxes Bench max: ...

Re: Personal Best Log
Deadlift 505x4x4 Not a big fan of multiple reps on deadlift, but C. Thibaudeau's 915 workout piqued my interest. When I looked at the rep scheme for Deadlift (well...for all of it actually) I thought "no way in hell!", but decided to give it a try. When I got my first set of 4 I decided to see if I ...
Re: The Belt
All good advice on here, just wanted to add my 2c. Might even be useful! Hoose, Stu, and Ironman have all said you should probably use a belt if you're trying to move significant weight. I believe what Crow is getting at, perhaps as well as the original poster, is what is "significant"? Hoose comes ...

Re: How do you feel about using straps
I use straps for snatch grip deadlift, high pulls of any variety, heavy farmers walks once my grip has given out (so...after the first one), and once my grip gives out on heavy deadlifts (500lb+). I try to limit my use so that I challenge my grip (and thus build grip strength). I can do double overh...

Re: DeadLift always gives Hip pains.
With KPj up above. I train deadlift at least once a week, quite often twice a week. And I only get close to my max maybe once a year (half a decade?). Of course I don't actually know what my true max is; as KPj puts it "my dirty, belted, rounded back, do or die best." I pulled 605 with no belt, good...
