Cardio recommendation for one only concerned with the health benefits/as no desire to better running ability

Hi, I am using the site to design a workout/lifting routine for myself after years of just following the general 3/5x5 kinda programs. I'm an intermediate strength wise, so I'm quickly finishing up the design of that and feel pretty confident. I don't with the cardio however. Currently, I've done 3x...

Re: Frequency/routine when inadequate recovery

Hey, I've been doing the 5-6 and 7-8 thing for a few weeks and it seems to be going decent, but because when I switch up my routine I often like to lower the weight by like 10% or so to kind of "build up" back to my strength I had before I don't know if I've reached the level to be really affected b...

Re: Frequency/routine when inadequate recovery

Yes... an alternating Fullbody-Plan (ABA, BAB) could be a good solution... at least doing only Squats or Deadlifts each training session... Perhaps you could even do your normal, heavy Squats followed with a light deadlift-variation and vice versa on the other day, depending on your recovery. Or yo...

Re: Frequency/routine when inadequate recovery

Hey thanks for the reply! Yes, I was doing all of those exercises in one training session, 3x/week. I think going back to only doing each lift 2x/week is the way to go, as on Wednesday I was supposed to do 320x5 in deadlift (after squatting earlier in the session) and when I bent down to do the work...

Frequency/routine when inadequate recovery

Hey all, I posted about two months ago asking about creating a routine, and with your advice I did so, basing it off of the 2 day push/pull split on the site. After about a month, I decided to simplify things, as I have no desire to compete or anything like that, and also to get more frequency of th...

Re: Should I do bench and OHP same day on Push/pull?

I wouldn`t move Press to Pull-Day, because you will stress deltoid and triceps each training day and not only on Push-Days. I`d rather... ... accept that Press is going to develop slower (which will always be the case) or ... change the excercises on the second Push-day (do Press before Benchpress)...

Should I do bench and OHP same day on Push/pull?

Hi guys, I've been running one of the 4x/week push/pull templates with success so far. However, I've noticed my OHP has not progressed, and maybe even got a bit weaker. I also OHP right after benching, and on Push days my heavy compounds are the Squat, Bench, and OHP, while on Pull days it's only De...

Re: Optional exercises on caloric deficit/maintenance

I think it would depend on your recovery... With a low caloric deficit or maintenance calories and no unreasonably high volume you could do fine with optional excercises. Otherwise the concentration on the main excercises would be a good idea. Too much training and/or a (high) caloric deficit and/o...

Some questions on rep ranges and progressing

Hi guys, So I've been trying to design my own program, but I'm a little confused on both set/rep ranges and progressing. First, looking at the Weight Training Guidelines page it seems that there are some differences between the stuff from ACSM 1995 and the stuff from 2002...am I wrong for thinking I...

Optional exercises on caloric deficit/maintenance

Hi, I thought I would try to create my own program for the first time ever using this site's info, after having followed routines by others in the past. I'm going to go with the 3 Day PPL routine, as I classify myself as still technically an intermediate because all of my "main" lifts are either rii...
