I used to use a ball roughly that size for ab slams. I'd lie down on my back with knees up, abs tensed. Hold the ball above your abs at arm's length and then throw it down onto your abs. I'd do a set straight down, then one at an angle to the right then left side. I did this basically to simulate ge...

sounds good...I'll try to start that tomorrow. The bars I do pullups on have various heights...see how the progress goes.

Nope, wasn't me. I read the thread though...thanks. Interesting. Basically what I'm getting from this is to continue to do weighted pullups (though add weight since sets of 5 reps at the current weight could be harder); weighted dips; work towards muscle up. I'll probably throw in days of pullup vol...

cool...thanks. I'll be getting my weighted backpack out again, maybe add some pounds. One thing I'm currently doing that *might* help on muscle-ups is this strange form of dips (don't know the name or if it has one). Instead of doing dips on parallel bars, I'm basically doing it on a single bar. I s...

So, what I'm getting from this is that my starting to work towards muscle ups (which I cannot do one of at this point) is a better use of my time than straining towards more volume of pullups? Another question: as mentioned, at this point I'm doing about 12 (15 on a good day) pullups for my first se...

Also, it doesn't have to be 120 straight reps without stopping. You're allowed to break it up into as many sets as you need with rest between sets, although admitedly this will add to your time. Still, I could give myself a week to do the 120 and wouldn't get there (though that might make for an in...

Crossfit's 120

I saw one of the Crossfit workouts recently was 30 muscle-ups or, if you can't do that, 120 pullups and 120 dips. The dips I can imagine, though I doubt I could do them all in one session. But the pullups?! My questions: how would you get to a point where you can do 120 pullups "for time"? Is anyone...

Thanks...yeah, the problem feels more like a general hip thing. I'll try the tennis ball rolling exercises. Looks simple enough. Girlfriend's also been complaining about a muscle on the bottom (underside) of her butt. Not surprising that it started to hurt her after a week and a half of meditating 8...

Thanks for all the responses. I'll start kicking a bit-- since I do realize that this is a motion a rarely do.

However, given that I feel similar tightness in other more common movement (bending over to tie my shoes; squats) I'll see what those stretches do.

thanks.

Kicking question

tsup everyone, I started working on sidekicks in my kung fu class. I could barely get the kick, on account of tightness in my hips. It feel as if the tension and lack of mobility stems from tightness in the tensor fasciae latae, but in truth I don't know. What I do know is that when I stand upright ...

Hey try it... when I was doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, one of our top fighters had just gone through testicular cancer. Not only was the guy a good fighter but he was in probably the best shape out of anyone there.

Though, a doctor consult is in order.

the MP3 player is a great idea. Maybe there's a track somewhere on the internet designed specifically for that purpose. Will check. If not, I'll see if I can cut one. If so, I will post a link to it to the forum. As for the other solutions, they look good but I'm usually outdoors and as far away fro...

oops-- the whole time/timing thing led to that Freudian slip of the keyboard.

Meant "you Tim" :)

I'm going to scour my G-shock's manual again, though I think it'll be fruitless.

For now, I'm doing basically the same as you, Time-- strapping the watch around something at eye level and watching the stopwatch.

Timing Tabatas on G-shock

Anyone know how to set a G-Shock (which I wear when training) timing function to a 20 second mark? Seems like the lowest timing unit is a minute. I want the thing to beep after 20 seconds.

Or any other ideas for this, aside from the Tabata-specific timers?
