i really like them, and do them quite a bit. Never really feel them in my chest though, more in my lats. Also get quite good development of my triceps which i know isn't really their main purpose but it can only be a good thing i suppose.

hmm right ok, I was squatting yesterday and tried going right the way down and was struggling to get back up, i'll try it just with an inch or so below parallel. Also, i lean forward a bit when squatting, my back stays straight but i move back a bit at the hips causing a lean. It never seems to hurt...

squat depth

How deep should you go on squats? I usually go to parallel but I'm trying to clean up my technique just now so I've dropped the weight right down and am now going to below parallel. Thing is i did a bit of research on the subject and the jury seems to be out on this. Some people advocate going right...

thanks for the link Tim, think I'll have a go at those swings, they look pretty cool.

Also think i might try using complexes as a warm up on my push/pull days.

yeah fair enough, I was going to use them for things like shoulder raises, flyes etc but it just seems like I'd be using them as dumbells which isn't very exciting.

Is there any kettlebell specific stuff worth trying?

kettlebells

Does anyone ever use kettlebells? What advantages -if any- do they have over dumbells/barbells. The gym i use just now doesn't have them so I've never had a chance to use them but as of next month i'm using a new gym which does so I'm just wondering if there's any point.

Cheers guys.

What does flax oil actually do? I take a fish oil supplement in a bid to try and kick start my brain and get a lot of olive oil due to eating an inordinate amount of fried food (which'll no doubt come back to get me as i get a bit older and my metabolism slows down). As i understand it fish oil is r...

Yeah i don't mean to understate the value of changing my routine, what i'm doing now is by far the best routine i've ever done, so the gains are obviously going to be the best i've ever had. It was just because they were SO good that I've fallen in love with whey.

That whey protein stuff's awesome by the way, i never thought it would work half as well as it did.

ANOTHER protein question (sorry)...

I realise every post here pretty much is on the subject of protein, and i did have a look through past posts to see if my question had been asked already but i couldn't see it. I'm sorry if this query's been dealt with before. For years i struggled to make any gains in mass, despite eating loads. A ...

Robertscott, I'm surprized you mentioned Gironda in a leg thread, LOL. In his old gym in Burbank, he wouldn't even allow a squat rack in there. thought squats would make the hips/waist too thick. Thus the sissy squats, etc. He was far ahead of his time, but was definately into the aesthetic aspect ...

personally, i think that sounds like you're doing too much. I would choose one of either the overhead press or the arnold curl and stick with that. Once you stop making as good gains then switch to the other. If you do both you're building up the anterior head more than the lateral and posterior whi...

getting advice from books is really useful, however i find talking to actual individuals about their own experiences to be even bettter. Don't get me wrong a lot of the info expecially from the well extablished guys like Rippetoe, Gironda etc is priceless and tried and true so you can't go far wrong...
