Hmm...interesting mix of opinions already. I'd agree that the fear of losing muscle is probably the biggest factor stopping me (and probably most lifters) from cutting that low. After all, who wants to see all their hard work being used as fuel. I wonder though at what level the body starts to brea...

I just ate a pint of eggwhites. Felt lonely since I didn't have 5 or so servings of veggies to mix in. Just an onion and some spices. Yum.

Rick: why not just get yourself down to 9% and then tell us how much muscle you lost? See if your lifts go down.

The muscle wastage isn't stopping you. It's your fear of the wastage.

That and beer and ice cream. Diet down and see what happens.

Just eat less. The benefit of some cardio in the mix is that you can eat a bit more. Or you can diet down faster.

But why wouldn't you be able to get to 9% without cardio? I would think there are a huge amount of people that have achieved this and that 95%+ of people can do so.

cables seem cool

Anyone else like cables? I just started doing a few cable exercises and they have kind of a cool stabilization effect. -horizontal rows with the wide bar (makes both shoulders work more than with the machine), even though only one cable. -bent knee leg flexions. Would think it would all be down the ...

I just did them again, today. You're right I was overthinking it. Revising what I said before: symmetric doesn't do much for my core at all. Since the weights are heavy pulling down and the steps relatively short. Really it feels almost all upper body (grip, traps, back of the arms even). I get way ...

I might try that. I was thinking after going frrom 2 t50s o 1, that I needed to go up. Or ren a preexhaustion with 2. So much stuff to try. Cool exercise! I really love how the 2 50s and the walk around the weights area hits my wind though. And the looks I get. Not trying to be argumentative, but th...

I find that single dumbell is way too easy and doesn't really hit core the same way, because weight ends up resting on side. Assymetric works kinda OK, but what I like the best is two at a time, normal. It's more upper body than lower body for me, and definitely gets the wind some as well. Interesti...

Had 2(!) different trainers show me exercises today. Will write it all up to help organize my thoughts and share with others. Of all the stuff, I tried wall slides and pec stretching seemed the most "instantly aha" but will try it all. Well, not all. Since there is too much stuff to do. Need to make...

thanks for the replies! Basically, the gym i have 'chosen' is simply due to logistics, my fiance and popularity: 1: It is on my way home from work 2: My fiance also uses it and she intends for us to use it together...lol, yeah, thats gonna happen :) 3: The other gyms in our area are overpopulated a...

I still maintain that you are hammering screws when people asked for screwing. But, if you do my taxes for free, I will say you are right.

P.s. I'm lifting legs tonight.

You'll notice that in the Poloquin blog that this referred to initially there is the reference to a study or studies at Tufts that showed that muscle mass correlates to longevity. I'd love to see that study and to be able to quote it with authority. In the blog Poloquin doesn't give any better hint...

I try to ask the attendent, (who's there for that, really, although at the Y they dump cleaning duties on them!) Would stay away from the trainers. Not always clear who is who, though.

I actually get an attendent to caliper me every couple months and he does a good job and for free!

If someone says that he wants to get huge and doesn't care about weight, fine. Or if he says he is willing to try a bulk and cut cycle, fine. But when he's already said his goal is to get "freaky ripped" to tell him to add fat? That's like someone coming in here and saying that his goal is upper bod...
