DL form

Yesterday my DL form broke down at the 3rd set 4th rep. One of the side went down faster. That sort of broke my concentration and I suspect my back rounded in the following rep. Starting Stregth (which I follow) states that everytime you show up, you increase the weight. Now I am wondering in my nex...

Hi all, Sorry for the delayed post, had a tooth extraction ( a really bad one) and was confined to bed for most of the last 3-4 days. I even missed the gym since last Wednesday. hoosegow Posted: Tue Apr 06, 2010 8:50 am Post subject: ------------------------------------------------------------...

Update: Started again today. With much wider stance and very low weight. I guess earlier I was not pushing with my hips, though I thought that I did. While rising, in my effort to rise straight, my torso formed a very narrow angle with the vertical and I pushed with my knees. This time I am trying ...

Thanks for all the advises, I wanted to go through all the replies before I post one. Yes I have read Starting Strength and try to follow it as closely as possible. I squat the following way: 1. Stance: Shoulder wide. Feet pointing out at angle I imagine to be 30 degrees. 2. Bar position: Belo...

Cannot do squats

Hi, I am following Starting Strength as advised by this forum and already can feel an increase in strength. But of late, squatting has become a problem. After every session of squat, I get a bad pain in my knees which last for 2 days and by that time my next workout day arrives( I train 3 days a wee...

I've just started to DL, and try to follow starting stregth instructions. I have started with real light weight, I do 2 sets with empty olympic bar and then load 10 kg and follow up with 20 kg and 30 kg. I keep the weight fairly low and really try to concentrate in the form. Since no one in my gym D...

Thank you Stuward. I really like this forum, the best part is that you may be a beginner and ask any dumb question and you will always have people answering you patiently.

When you say of ideal protein intake of .8gm/kg of Bodyweight , do you mean the weight of the pure protein contained in the food or the weight of the food? Like 10gm of chicken contains x gm of protein, among other things. So do you recommend the weight in terms of chicken (or whatever source) or th...

Thanks doc and KPj. Two quick questions: 1. When you say neutral spine, is it the natural curvature of the spine or a slight arch backwards? You said 'Hips back, chest up/out'. This means slight arch backwards, right? 2. Do I also kind of push my shoulder blades back to emphasise this tightness? I s...

ApolytonGP, I read that lyle mcdonald article at the thread you gave. Lyle courages machine workouts to the newbs. He has this chart of Starting Strenth vs. a BB routine by his mentor vs. what he teaches, the machine routines. In fact if I remember correctly, in one of his articles he went to so far...

[quote]Trash-Talker: Don't see the point in training legs. No one can see them. Thats precisely is what another guy at the gym said. And this guy has a big trunk, huge biceps, really good triceps and all. So he pulled up his track and said his legs are as thin as me but what the heck, no one sees th...

Stephen, not many guys in my gym are interested to do the squats! In fact one of them advised me against sqatting last night saying it might lead to lower back problems if done incorrectly. They all seem to be happy with the leg press, leg extensions and leg curls. Thanks everybody for all the advic...
