Re: Training Deadlift and Overhead Press only

I was just asking some theoretical questions.

A benefit of only doing these two exercises is that you only need a barbell and plates. you don't need a bench and you don't need a rack, if you clean the barbell from the floor before you do overhead presses.

Training Deadlift and Overhead Press only

Read much about some Russian Programs. Some Famous from Pavel Tsatsouline only have the Deadlift and Overhead Press (or his preferred Bent Press) in it. A better Overhead Press increases the Bench Press, cause the shoulders and the triceps are the limitating factors and not the Chest in my opinion. ...

Re: Big chest with OHP, Push Press and CJ only possible?

Thanks for the answers.

@Kenny:

So you think the chest grows just, cause they grow overall? Or ist the whole chest also hit a bit with overhead presses?

Then grip a bit wider or use the hook grip. But don't get the idea to use straps to still be able to use the overhand grip ;)

Re: What weight did your grip first fail (deadlift)

keep your arms at full extension, then your elbow doesn't rotate inwards and then a biceps tear is even more unlikely.

an alternative is using the hook grip, but it's hard on the thumb.

Re: Big chest with OHP, Push Press and CJ only possible?

Yes, for weightlifting it's obvious that bench press is no need to be good.

i'm just wondering how they can have big chests with weightlifting and other overhead stuff only, cause the general opinion is that overhead work only hits the upper and not the whole chest.

is this true or not?

Big chest with OHP, Push Press and CJ only possible?

hey, i'm a big fan of olympic weightlifting and especially Klokov. Klokov always says in his seminars he doesn't bench press, other Russians also seem not to do it and the athletes from Califonrnia Strength seem also not do it. Klokov and some guys from California Strength have big chests anyway. Is...

Re: westside routine questions

The Westside programs are more for geared lifters. For raw lifters something like 5/3/1 or a classical powerlifting routine works better.

Re: Best back exercise in my opinion.

I hope you have a tight low back, when performing this exercise, then it's not dangerous. But i think exercises like good mornings or back raises are better, cause they are much more safe for the lower back.

Are you using this execise as assistance for your deadlift?

Re: Routine for my lazy ass

the routine looks good. you could do squats and deadlifts before the other exercises if you think you are not fit enough for good squats/deadlifts anymore after doing the upperbody stuff. also be careful with 3-4 deadlift sets. could be too hard with the same weight across, but it's okay when you us...

Re: Another exercise plan question

I would do dips instead of pull ups at workout A and i would do the deadlifts before the chins at workout B. Looks more balanced for me and is better for increasing your deadlift. and i wouldn't do the optional exercises. it's enough without these exercises to improve overall strength. stuward is ri...

Re: Could use some input for building custom program

Why dont you do a Flat Bench Press? Doesn't make sense for me to only do Incline Bench Press.

I would recommend this:

A:
Squat
Bench Press
Deadlift

B:
Squat (low intensity)
Overhead Press or Incline Bench Press
Deadlifts

Then you can go with ABA.

knee pain at squats

my gf has some issues with her left knee since she squats a bit deeper than before. the pain is located inside of the patella, going also a bit upward of the patella like a visual "C" form. she's not sure if it is the meniscus or the medial collateral ligament of the knee. she squated with the knees...
