Thanks Tim, I've been thinking about joining crossfit for a while. But I (as I think you know) greatly enjoy making my own workout plans so their WoD would be mostly useless to me. Thanks for the advice about beginning small and not getting down on myself. Luckily I saw right away how much more diff...

Two things: As you may know I'm doing a system of gradual progression with most exercises, increasing the weight 5 or 10 pounds when I can do 3 sets of 4 at the current weight. What I've decided to do is adapt this to bench press, but since I rotate between four workout templates (5x5, 4x4, 3x3, pyr...

Well I'm pleased, my bench pressing seems to be progressing at quite a clip.
Had to cut my chest workout woefully short though, but benching took nigh on half an hour.

Bench Press
1/4/190/190/210
3/3/230
1/3/235

Military Press
2/4/55
1/6/55 (failure)

Dips
3/5/5 (added 5 pounds with a weight belt)

You know there have been some extremely well constructed arguments laid for the legalisation of marijuana. Including of course cleaning it up, standardizing it to make it safer, and regulations on the producers. This is something I think I've read before, but I didn't review it before reposting it h...

Sounds good to me, beware of leg extensions on a machine, I've heard that if one doesn't really pay attention to the settings (proper length/height settings) of the machine it can put undue stress on one's knees.

First, that seems like alot. 3 sets for incline/decline/flat bench/close grip/pec dec is 18 sets for chest, which is alot, too many. Cut something, anything. Second, mix up the dumbbells and barbells, perhaps you could do: flat and CG bench with BB, incline/decline with DB and then flat DB, incline ...

I think you ought to be alright the way you're doing it now, since you're mixing up the two portions of the pecs. The only potential overtraining problem I see is with your triceps. They're involved in each heavy training day, and especially for close-grip days. If you feel you're overtraining then ...

Overhead static holds

As you may have seen I tried some overhead work today. Part of it was trying to just do static holds above my head to learn to control weight overhead. My question is, how do I know when I'm ready to increase the weight I'm holding. And also how long I should aim to do each set. Today for instance I...

Overhead Squats impossible?

Yeah, I tried overhead squats today, the terrible details in my journal. Those are so hard! Tips on posture, how to improve my ability to do this? Balance? I'd really appreciate hearing about everyone else's thoughts and advice on overhead squats. For those who don't know, overhead squats are where ...

Since I announced to my dad the other day that I have basically 'conquered' my chest (in the since that I have a good base of general strength in almost all of my chest/push muscles, and so can do great workouts to hit all of them), today was my first serious attempt to do a back workout. Combined w...

I can say that I have seen both being consumed, and in fact consumed alcohol myself. I will never use weed. Period. So I must side with alcohol being the safer choice. This is mostly based on the possibilty of psychological addiction to weed, as well as it being smoked (affecting the lungs directly).

Today's workout was just cardio:
Exercise bike (a different one, this is the one I'll try to use each time from now on) - 30 minutes, 8.59 miles, 17.18 mph, average heartbeat rate 148. (it has heartrate sensors in the handles, pretty neat).
