what is the best method for meausring one's lean muscle mass? before and after a training program? thanks

measure your body fat, cheapest most reliable is 7 point calliper, more accurate is the dunk thingy. Scales suck and so do most "gadgets".

Scale Weight x BF% = Body Fat weight ;
Scale Weight - Body Fat Weight = Lean mass weight (of course this include organs and bones, but you can't really get around that).

yeah, what ever you do, dont use the military's system. Its possibly the worst.. Its the crappy height, weight test, with a tape test around chest, stomach, and neck. Its horrid, use the caliper pinch test. Also, I quick way to see your appx. lean mass is to look for the number of veins sticking out of your appendeges (mainly biceps and calfs) or how well you can see your "lower" abs. If you have an 8 pack, then your pretty damn lean.
