My ab workout conclusion/input

i've been training my core everyday as i was told by my personal trainer (personal fitness instructor) that i can train upper abs one day and lower abs the nxt day. so i have been following what he said for 4 months n i m seeing some pretty significant results.

what i did was

twisted lying crunches - day 1 : 60 reps

twisted vertical knee raise - day 2 : 30 reps

and what i've really noticed is that all my friends have been saying the amount of reps u do is a waste of time, just put some weight on n you will save alot of time. this is absolutely wrong. for abs : reps > weights i dunno the reason so i need someone to tell me why's that lol

Find a new trainer. No such thing as upper and lower abs.

Your abs are also like any other muscle, you train them heavy (Weighted situps, etc) and give them rest like you would any other muscle.

Anything you can do for more than 15 reps is going to do nothing for developing muscle, you have to put them under heavy weight.

then how u explain i train wit my friend everyday he does the exact same thing 'cept he uses weight instead of lot of reps and right now hes still stuck wit a tub of fat....

n the trainer is my high skoo teacher i go rambo in the gym now

Seeing your abs is 100% diet, it has nothing to do with how you train them.

Your trainer does not know what he's talking about, at all. If you came on this forum asking for advice, then you should take it when it's given to you.

NightFaLL is right, doing loads of crunches/sit ups/whatever will get you nowhere.

train them just like every other muscle - with weight.

Also do roll outs

Quantification of the differences in electromyographic activity magnitude between the upper and lower portions of the rectus abdominis muscle during selected trunk exercises.

Physical therapy 2001;81(5):1096-101.

"RESULTS: No differences in muscle activity were found between the upper and lower portions of the rectus abdominis muscle within and between exercises."


Furthermore, abs should be trained as anti-rotators considering that is their function.

Is there any way the mods can prevent photos over a certain size from being put on the forum? How about prevent physique photos? Nothing without mountains, flowers or trees. Or babies.

Insanity is constantly being advertised on US TV - not sure if that's the same one. The parts of the infomercials I've briefly seen make it look like a clone of CrossFit.

I think you are getting more toned abs compared to your friend because the more reps means muscular endurance and tonage. Applying more weight means making the workout more of a strength workout.
